So grateful for Pizza Monday!  2 miles on the treadmill and 2 pieces of pizza.  And I think to myself, "What a wonderful world."

Okay, it's decision time.  Moab is about four weeks away and I have done a total of 6 walking miles in 2 weeks.  I'm not going to run Moab.  I'm still going to Moab and I'm definitely still getting my shirt and hat (I didn't pay $50 for a 5 mile race not to get any souvenirs).  It's just that, while everybody else is getting up early and standing in the cold and running a race, I'll be sleeping in and eating ginger pancakes with apple butter at the Jailhouse Cafe.  I'm really trying to see the downside of this decision.  I'm pretty disappointed in myself, but I think it's the right thing to do.  If I had gotten pregnant one month earlier, I probably would have had enough time to recover from the first trimester fatigue a little and at least walk the 5 miler, but I drag my feet doing 2 miles on the treadmill right now and I don't see it getting anywhere near 5 in the next month.  So, disappointing, yes, but at least there are pancakes to be had.

Congratulations on expecting! Very exciting news. Kids are a lot of very worthwhile work. Somewhat similar to miles, except the benefits are harder to see while the work is in progress, but when they come, they are much greater as well.

Regarding the 5 miler - it is a lot easier to run 5 miles with a lot of company on the road breathing fresh canyon air than 2 on alone on a treadmill breathing some gym dust. Plus, racing while pregnant scores some serious commando points from Brent, and allows you to claim some serious credit when the child becomes a fast runner. Paul would not be able to say that it is all his genes. You'll be able to say that you helped him/her get fast by racing pregnant!

Paul was the one who told me to pull out of the race. Maybe he's trying to keep me from taking any of the credit for the baby's running abilities.

He is just afraid because this may be one of the only opportunities in your life where you may be able to beat him in a race!

Enjoy the pancakes! Just so you know, there are many of us who feel seriously wiped out in the 1st trimester. I did really intense aerobics regularly before I had any kids and by the time I was 6 weeks prego with #1, I couldn't even do 5 minutes of it.

Stacy, you made James and I laugh out loud. That Paul! Very conniving...

Oh darn! I was looking forward to running/walking with you. Will a good guilt trip change your mind?!

No, I think it is better that you fill your and your baby's tummy with pancakes and enjoy the view. You deserve to enjoy this time and take it easy. Being pregnant is no picnic!

My first trimester was very tough I did minimal running just enough so I could run in my second which is much better than the 1st (lots of throughing up). So don't feel bad about it. In fact I ran a 5k with my daughter in my 3rd and I don't think I would have been able to do it in my 1st. I just expect some major cheering from you:)

Happy Birthday today, Stacy!
